Re: The Kingdom of the Stormlands

An hour later, two guards had replaced Beric as Aelix's escort, his hands tied together as he stood, behind Beric, facing Argilac Durrendon in his tall throne of limestone in the great hall of Storm's End.

"I've brought you a gift, father. A scion of the Targaryens. Might make them want to consider some degree of negotiation, don't you think?"

Argilac's face was lit brightly with a smile unlike any other. Some bright side had finally appeared in his life, as much was obvious.

"Yes, well. Good work, Beric. And you, Targaryen... Off with you to the dungeons. Get ready to wake up early in the morning. We'll put you on the walls, show you to your troops to make it obvious that we really have you, make it clear that we're ready to renew negotiations. Luck being on our side this time."

IC:

I wouldn't go ahead and count what's on your side just yet, Aelix almost said, but instead he kept his face straight; Beric had bloodied his lip, ruffled that fine white hair of his, and gave him the appearance of an actual captive before leaving him weaponless and tossing him at his father's feet.

"Yes," he said, "as you command, Lord Durrendon."

The guard's fist came down on him hard, and he woke up behind bars.

Two hours later, Argella Durrendon, protected only by two guardsmen, found herself at the entrance to a tunnel located in the deeper dungeons of the fortress of Storm's End, even below the prisoner cellars. Here was where the burial crypts of the Durrendon kings lied, and it was perhaps apt that on a day when she sincerely expected this line of kings to end she would visit the place where it had started.

Of course, she didn't come down here to die, no. That would be a disappointing, unfitting end to such a line.

The Princess of the Stormlands took step after step down a hallway lined with the statues and the burial urns of previous kings, finally arriving at a statue of the very first Storm King, Durran I Godsgrief, and his wife, Elenei. But she came not to grieve nor to remember her ancient line, no. She came to escape, while her father and her brother feasted. She knew as much: they needed help. They needed help now.

Just a push of a hidden button, and the statue simply edges aside, revealing a hidden door. She turned slightly to her bodyguards and nodded.

"We're leaving, boys," she said, giving a sad smile. "Exile awaits."

Re: The Kingdom of the Stormlands

Post by Tyler Durden on Sat Apr 26, 2014 3:50 am

IC:

"This is a comfortable little arrangement," noted the Prince of Dragonstone, savoring his cage. The guard at the door said nothing. "Very chivalrous of you, to give me a cell with bed and sans chains. I appreciate it."

The guard grunted something about high birth and Valyrian sisterfuckers. Very typical; very droll. Aelix Targaryen supposed he couldn't expect much wit from a dead man, though, and let the Stormlander think that the barb had cut. There's wine on the dresser, too. Probably Beric Storm's doing. The Durrendons may not have wanted him dying thirsty, but Aelix refused to give them the satisfaction of thinking he needed a flagon of Dornish red in his system to make his march toward oblivion. Beric may have loved to make his little jests, japes on Aelix being prettier than half the Durrendon queens of old, but Aelix knew better - and so did the bastard. The daughter, too. She's cut from some other cloth. Not their father's children. Blind with arrogance and gone grey, Argilac Durrendon had convinced himself that he would dig his heels into the ground of Storm's End and catch the dragon by the nose. He wants to barter me, and failing that he wants to cut my throat and fling me from the tower. He could think of no more humiliating end. "Or one less chivalrous," he muttered to himself. The guard grunted.

"Oh, nothing," he explained, fey and innocent. "I was debating the way you Westerosi handle prisoners. A cell suited for your birth and station, indeed. It's all very high and mighty, isn't it? A Lannister would cut my throat; a Stark would go the distance and cut my entire head away from my neck. But the Durrendons give me naught but linens of dodgy cleanliness standards, a choice between Dornish red or Arbor gold, and the vague promise of dying come morning. I appreciate it."

"Well, you see, dragonspawn," the guard explained in a gravelly bass, "we try to keep things more civil at this side of the world. We treat our captives well. We fight our battles honorably. We don't fuck our sisters in the arse. The little things."

The young Valyrian prodigy rolled his eyes. "Boring." The guard grunted, but said nothing else.

"If you want to fight honorably, give me a sword, then," he suggested after a minute, standing up and walking over to the jug of red wine. "Single combat, man to man. The winner gets this fine jug of wine; loser's corpse can be stuffed under the bed."

The guard grunted and shook his head.

"Why not?"

"Because I'm not a fucking imbecile, Targaryen."

"Better to be a fucking craven than an imbecile?" Aelix challenged, fiddling with the jug; it was cheaply made, and the handle broke off in his palm. He sighed in disdain and casually peeked into the flagon, trying to discern the mysteries at the bottom of the sour red. He did not drink.

"We both know who'd win. That's why you're behind bars."

"But I'm not chained," the Prince of Dragonstone observed again, leaning against the wall.

"Like I said. We keep things civil here."

"And you're all the stupider for it." The wine handle slipped through the bars on the iron door of his cell, and with a small noise of pleasure Aelix cut into the guard's throat with the jagged metal edge. Blood spurted from his throat for several seconds as he claws at the handle first, and then Aelix's arm. Finally, he stopped and lay still against the door. That was the easy part, though. His keys were still at his hip, and Aelix still lacked the arm's reach to grab them and unlock the door. It took a careful, tentative hook of the other end of the wine jug's handle against the bar to hold the man's body to the door while he scooted over the bed as quietly as he could. It took another ten minutes for him to try and heft the man up (nearly dropping him a couple more times) before grabbing the keys. After that, it took another five to contort himself effectively enough to reach the keyhole; when it finally worked, his bicep was almost stuck in the door, and by that time the noise had been heard.

True to his luck that entire night, Aelix Targaryen managed to get a sword in his hands just before half a dozen men had come filing down the hallway, sporting the Durrendon stag. One look said clearly which Durrendon noble had sent them.

"The sisterfucker's loose," the head jailor yelled back to his posse. Aelix sighed. Again with sisterfucker. They could probably find a maester to concoct a better Valyrian jape at this point, and it would get more of a rise from the Prince than sisterfucker did.

"You Westerosi throw that term around so much that I'm truly convinced that all of you have some truly fucking homely sisters."

He casually flicked his sword up in a salute, and then it fell to the level of his waist; the quarters were tight, and they were six against one, all with larger swords than he had. The Durrendons drew their swords, looking like mob levies who had just lifted their first pitchforks.

Aelix left his ready stance (which he had always loathed; telegraphing one's swordplay, indeed!) and took a step forward.

Hm?

Oh. Ohohoho.

Well now, might want to be up and at 'em for this one.

Mit Nives rose. Not that that was much work, mind you. Chains were a lovely piece of work like that, he could swear his arms had stretched a fair inch over the past month. Well, he was fairly certain it was a month, but with nothing to go off of, you hardly ever had a chance to figure it out.

However long it was, in all his nineteen short years Mit had never felt so unbearably shitty. Hells, the hunger wasn't even why, which is what you'd normally think. He lived in a small mountain cabin with his grandfather as a lad, he knew what hunger felt like and how to deal with it. His whole life was arguably defined by hunger, hunger for adventure as much as food. Aye, the two go hand in hand once you're unceremoniously kicked out of home one you're grown and the old man's had too much to drink.

That all lead to this. Well, look at the bright side, in chains at Storm's End of all places seems like a fairly adventure-ish ordeal.

That is, with just being sort of held here, with no real idea of what was supposed to come next. That's where the real weight came. Letting your imagination cook up the punishment for you. But really, what sort of punishment had he even earned?

...Did he just piss off a lot of people? That probably helped things along. After all, a month of just rotting here was a lot for sneaking in and grabbing food.

Or was it? Too damn hard to tell with royalty.

Where was he, anyway?

"The sisterfucker's loose,"

Oh, right. That. Really, surprising to see one of them in his lifetime. Little princeling from Dragonstone, if he heard right. Sounded like he was making a hell of a ruckus.

Might as well do my part.

"Depends on whose they are!" he shouted, in response to the Targaryen's jab. "Can't say I'd know myself, though! Ask around!"

One of these days that's gonna bite me in the ass. he thought, as if it hadn't already.

IC:

Aelix created a small whirlpool of water around one hand and splashed it across the tub, towards where his sister was trying to let the warm water of Storm's End's bathhouse seep into her pores and replenish her after two months of hard fought battle...or...something.

Maybe she had been too long without seeing him naked.

He was sure of it.

"You're being boring." Aelix reached up to tousle his long silver hair and then used that hand to gesture expansively through Storm's End. "The bastard and I took one of the greatest castles in Westeros with a single ruse - and we both lived. Does that count for not even a burst of energy?"

"I still haven't forgiven you for making me spend the entire Stormlands campaign with Rhaenys." The Targaryen princess half opened her eyes, enough to fix her brother with a mildly annoyed look. "You know our dear aunt and I get along about as well as Orys and cunts."

"I'm very impressed you took the castle, and I'm certainly not complaining about the bath. But I'll complain all I like about being away from it."

IC:

"Don't be pouty. You won the Dornish Marches almost singlehandedly, Rhaenys told me everything at the war council. I'd have given my sword hand to have seized as much ground in so short a time as you did." Aelix beamed and splashed at his sister again playfully.

"If it helps, I'm proud of you for kicking ass in the face of adversity. That helps, right? Great."

"Sure, sure, you'll be in all the songs and legends, I'll just be remembered by the mosquitoes in the marshes." The Targaryen princess gave an exaggerated roll of the eyes, settling deeper into the water. The faintest hints of a grin tugged at the corners of her mouth.

"Easy to be supportive from the fame."

"I think you're forgetting that I grew up with you." Victorya replied, standing and crossing the distance between her and the rock in a quick step. She sat down easily, raising an eyebrow at him.

"I know what it looks like when you're being mischievous."
